BFS Acquires New Airport Rescue & Fire Fighting Tender

The Barbados Fire Service has acquired a new Rosenbauer - Panther, Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) vehicle. The new appliance will join the existing fleet of crash tenders at the Airport Fire Station and improve the departments ability to respond to aerodrome emergencies at the Grantley Adams International Airport.

Barbados Fire Service Acquires New Tanker

The Barbados Fire Service has acquired a water tanker capable of carrying 3 000 gallons. The tanker was purchased for $715 972 from British company Angloco, which designs, manufactures and distributes firefighting and rescue equipment.

Firefighters Save Elderly Woman

An elderly woman was saved from certain death in a house fire at Britton's Hill, St. Michael. Firefighters responded to the call around 1:57 a.m. and discovered the woman was unable to escape due to burglar bars which were erected on the doors and windows of the smoke filled house.

Fire Engages Firefighters For Over Five Hours

Counter-fire Operations At Arch Hall

Fire Officer Rodney King Laid To Rest

Hundreds of family, friends and fire officers filled the Christ Church Parish Church on Thursday to pay final respects to Fire Officer Rodney King.



King, 45, of Lodge Road, Christ Church died recently at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital after a brief illness. He enlisted in the Barbados Fire Service in 1991 and was last assigned to Fire Service Headquarters on Probyn Street in Bridgetown.

BICO Up In Flames

The headquarters of ice-cream maker BICO went up in flames tonight, causing at least one million dollars in damage.

The north-western section of the complex was extensively damaged by the inferno that started around 7:50 p.m. and lasted more than two hours.

Fire Service Employee Idalia Yarde Has Died

On Friday, members of the Barbados Fire Service learned of the death of Chrisita Idalia Yarde a civilian employee of the department.

Ms. Yarde was employed as a maid and worked with the department for many years serving at all of the fire stations before being appointed to staff (full time) in 2004. She was last assigned to the Worthing Fire Station in Christ Church.

Hero Breaks Open Door; Saves Old Woman From Fire

Kadooment Hero! That's what residents are calling a young man who yesterday, Kadooment Day, lifted a 94-year-old woman from a burning house and took her to safety.



Shawn Howell broke down a door and brought Enid Sandiford to safety after a room in her Seclusion Road, Black Rock, St Michael home caught on fire.
