Happy Memorial day '09

I hope that all of you who are in the emergency service field or in any type of military service had a great day filled with joy and celebration. As we have spent the day reflecting and remembering those who paid the ultimate sacrifices to protect, preserve and defend the freedoms and rights of the country of the United States of America. We are very thankful and grateful to all of these types of people who had done this and are still continuing to provide their services to our great country… Continue

A medevac story from the Internet

Maryland to Revise Medevac Guidelines

Doctor's OK to be required before some chopper flights

The Baltimore Sun

In a move that could reduce the number of medevac flights in Maryland, state emergency medical officials announced yesterday that ambulance teams will be required to consult with doctors before deciding whether flying some accident victims to a trauma center is better than driving them to a local hospital.

The change, in response to a deadly helicopter… Continue

New cardiac study from the Internet

Sheryl Ubelacker, THE CANADIAN PRESS

The Toronto Star

There is a huge variation in survival rates among people who receive emergency treatment after suffering cardiac arrest - and the overall prognosis is poor at best, a study of 10 Canadian and U.S. cities and regions has found.

Researchers from the two countries found that overall, less than 8 per cent of people who were treated by paramedics or firefighters for cardiac arrests in the home or elsewhere outside… Continue

News article from the Internet " Solemn Rituals Mark 7th Anniversary of September 11

By AMY WESTFELDT

Associated Press Writer

NEW YORK --

Familiar rituals of grief marked the seventh anniversary of Sept. 11 on Thursday as thousands paid tribute at the attack sites, the presidential candidates laid flowers at ground zero and children mourned parents they are barely old enough to remember.

Sens. John McCain and Barack Obama called off their campaigns for the day, and in the late afternoon descended the long ramp into the pit of the World… Continue

Firemen Jubilee and parade thoughts!!

On Wednesday, June 16, 2008 I went to my first ever fireman's Jubilee. I have been too many different types of fire fighter and other emergency personnel parades. For example Memorial Day parades or sometimes July 4 holiday parades. However, June 16 was my first fireman's Jubilee. I got to see all the neat equipment that different fire companies/departments are able to use as well as some of the different types of emergency vehicles that they are using in their departments. It was a real… Continue

Fourth of July thoughts

This is the time of year when we remember the men and women who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. Whether these people include: Soldiers, Police Officers, EMS personnel or Firefighters or any other type of Military personnel. So, as we go to parades, picnics or whatever we do as part of our fourth of July celebrations, always remember why we do have Fourth of July and the freedoms that we have as a nation.
Have a safe and happy Fourth of July holiday!

More Emergency Personnel Needed!

I feel that there is a lack of emergency personnel that are actually available to respond to situations where they may be dispatched to. I believe that this situation applies for all emergency personnel whether it is police officers, firefighters or EMS personnel. On any given day I can listen to my scanner at my house and hear in emergency dispatchers having to dispatch emergency departments from outside of the area of the incident or incidents. This situation applies for both paid emergency… Continue

Emergency Personnel that are Disabled!

There are many people in the world today that want to be involved in the emergency services field but they have a disability of some sort. Please don't give up on your dream of helping out in the emergency field even though you may be disabled. There is always something out there for you to do in the emergency field if that is the field that you have chosen to enter for a career. I am physically disabled and I have always thought that there is nothing out there for me to do that is related to… Continue
