Well it was a very long night in Operations. Even cops who dont like firefighters had the dignity to put aside their petty feelings and realize that but for the Grace of God we go. But listening to the job on the radio and following along on CAD, one could not help but feel sick to the stomach. As I commented, we heard the ladder companies on the roof and knew they were in trouble. Things went south in a matter of minutes.

ContinueBlog city here I am. I have survived another edition of the Boston Carribean Festival, perhaps the biggest street party in Boston. For one day the city blocks off Blue Hill Avenue and Franklin Park and allows people to get crazy. And boy do they ever! Even in 100+ degree heat, thousands showed up to march in the parades [two of them!] and just have fun. Costumes were plentiful; some of the paraders were carrying 30 pounds of decorations on their backs.
