Buddy your right, one thing no one likes is change.
Unless it's a new truck, but then again we are so in love with the old one that we don't want to give it up. But we all have to remember the days when we first got on and how horny we where for that first call. Although there is some difference now from then, I know some of the older guys who said they where given a pager and gear and told your a firefighter. It's no longer the boys club now, there is a lot more training and safety put in behind all of it. Not everything is taught out of a book, your right on that part that it take years of doing. We all judge the new guy, and forget sometimes what the new guy must feel like walking into the family. But we hope that maybe one of the older guys grabs the new guy before the black sheep of the family gets to him first.
Like your comment about Old Timers, it's something else with the difference of opinion on what an Old timer and a Newbee are. Times have changed and one thing people do not like is change. As a trainer it's a bitch to convert the old guys to the new ways....
