Great, I was the public education officer for my department for many years. I have stepped down from the position as I have become very busy with my first job, home, and little time for social life. I felt I was not able to give the position what I wanted to give it or what it needed. I support the Asst. Chief now as she is the pub ed officer now also. I give her feedback when I can. Public Education once kept me in the fire service when I hit a low spot in my years of service. It was inspiration to continue my service. I once considered obtaining a small size turnout coat, helmet, boots, and other stuff for pub ed, but felt there was a problem with fitting different kids and the sanitary issue. I don't let my firefighters in my department let children wear helmets. I instead let the kids and adults pick up each piece of gear in their hands and ask them if they could wear all that and pull someone out of a fire. Your selection of your picture shows your interest in working with children in the fire service. I wish you success in your career and good luck.

In your picture I see you putting a helmet on a child. Is the helmet a real helmet, or a child's helmet. I have read a few studies about children and firefighter helmets. Be careful.
