Other Past or Current Departments and Organizations
Mentone Volunteer Fire Dept. Mentone,AL. That is a great bunch of guys and I had a lot of fun with them
Parker Fire Dept. Panama City, FL. This was a horrible experience. The Chief was an idiot.
My Training:
My certs. in Alabama-FF1, FF2, FO1, Driver/Operator, HazMat Tech, SCBA Specialist(smoke diver), Confined Space Rescue, High-Angle Rescue, EMT-B and EMT-I.
My certs. in Florida-FF1
My certs. in Georgia-FF1, HazMat Ops, and 1st Responder
About Me:
I didn't mention I was a dispatcher for a few years, but I didn't like sitting there talking on the radio while everyone else had fun. I was also an EMT with an ambulance service in Birmingham, AL. I got a lot of really good experience there.
While I was with Ft. Payne Fire I responded to several high-angle rescues. Thats something I'm really proud of. Instead of just training only to see maybe one or two rescues in a whole career it was not unusal to respond to 6-10 rescues a year. When you do that many you tend to get good at it.
This past year with Rome Fire has been one of my best years in the fire service. I really feel like I'm learning more about the job than I ever have. I have had some of the best training and worked with some great people who want to help me learn and advance.
Relationship Status:
Divorced
Why I Joined Fire/EMS
I got into emergency services because I lived in a small town and there wasn't much to do. So I joined the Fire Dept. That way if something happened at least I would be involved. I spent 8 years with the volunteer fire dept. in Fyffe, Al.
As I got more experience I starting really enjoying the job and wanted to make a career of it. I worked with Ft. Payne Fire Dept. in Alabama for 12 years. Now I'm with Rome Fire Dept. where I just completed my first year.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
Everything! I love it all.
Top Issues Facing Responders:
Safety is always a key issue. Fitness needs to be mandatory, because most deaths each year always seem to be from cardiac problems.
