I have been riding along with Hancock County Ambulance Service for about a year and a half now, trying to get the hang of how things work and some hands on experience. I plan on going to EMT school once I graduate high school, then later goign on to beacome a paramedic. I love the work paramedics do and love being in the back of an ambulance. I have made friends with some of the best people in the world and had some great experiences with them. Even though I'm a just a senior in high school they are comfortable enough with me to throw me into the middle of ANY call. I'm very proud of myself for gaining that trust with them.
I'm also a junior firefighter at Panther Creek/Kyles Ford Volunteer Fire Department. I'm not really interested in being a full time firefighter but volunteering is ok I guess. I'm proud of the fact that I'm a member of a fire department, but EMS is what I truly love doing.
It's something I have always wanted to do. My uncle was an EMT and him and my grandpa were members of the Rescue Squad so I have been around this kinda thing since I was little.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
The rush you always get and the feeling of confidence you get with knowing you can help someone.
Top Issues Facing Responders:
The way the public looks at EMS personell. I'm in no way putting down firefighters or police officers at all, but they always get called the heroes when they pull somebody out of a dangerous situation. But the Paramedics and EMTs that put that person on a backboard, holds C-spine until somebody can get a C collar on them, get them in the truck, intubate that person, push drugs, and get their heart back to a normal rythm before they get to the hospital are looked at as ambulance drivers....
Hey! I'm currently not on any departments. I just moved and I'm trying to settled lol. I was certified as an MRT. Ya, I started when I was 14. I love this stuff! I was on the Rescue Post in high school, went to Stafford from there and now, I'm just living so to speak lol. So I guess you could say I was an explorer, but not anymore lol.

What changed your mind about the fire department? What kind of training do you have? I'm still not changing my mind about emt but I'm glad to hear your giving the fd a try. :-)
from age 14-17 your a Junior ff. I've never heard the term explorer before until i joined this site.
i go down to Gatlinburg, and down to TN Tech University sometimes. Best part of the year is going south. lol
Hey! Not much is going on with me...As far as what we do in my department, it's kind of on a stand still. Mainly because Everyone who has tried running the junior program has failed. By membership forms there are 3 juniors, but I'm the only one who shows up of does anything. So I do trainings by myself, and sometimes my sister(sr.) will do some inhouse trainings with me. I don't mind being the only junior, what does bother me is that I'm the only girl around most of the time, because the other 2 are at collage and the other junior doesn't show, and I'm the youngest, and the asst. chief's youngest daughter. so everyone thinks it's okay to piss me off. I deal with it as much as i can, but some of them have gotten shit for coming near me...Of course everyone always ask's me why i never talk...umm i don't know, because I don't like talking to a bunch of jerks lol...anyway enough of me bitching about my station. What do you do with your "explorer's"? I need Idea's so We can get our program together...
Where in east Tennessee do you live. I love it there. I can't wait to go back this summer. :-)
