When I started, as a seventeen year old, I don't know if I really thought about a reason. Some of the friends I had in High School belonged to a rescue squad, but it wasn't till I went to work for a company where my boss was a member of the "squad" that I joined myself. I spend almost 3 years in the rescue squad before moving south and starting a new job with a chemical company, part of the job was firefighting. I found firefighting more to my liking so I stayed around a while. Thirty some years later after going from Rookie to Chief to Instructor and back I got to old. But there must be something there 'cause I still get that feeling when I hear the fire trucks.
