Why I Joined Fire/EMS

I joined the GFD (VOL) in 1972 because I lived in a small town and wanted to help others, hoping that in my time of need others would help me and my family. That beginning grew over the years as I moved up the ranks to Chief in 2003. I am now a Lifetime member with reserve status. My son also has 20 years with the same dept. and is currently Asst Chief. He has been a Career FF for the past year and a half with the Williston, VT Fire Dept.

Top Issues Facing Responders:

making sure that FF/EMS personnel are trained properly and have the PPE for doing their jobs safely today so they can return home to their families after the call. The calls now are very different than when I first started in 1972.
