I left one high stress job with a sheriff's office to come to EMS. I love the change!!! I'm engaged to a volunteer firefighter.

Why I Joined Fire/EMS
I thought while I was in high school I wanted to be a Paramedic. The "real life" aspect scared me to death. Now, after 6 years working in a large jail with a medical unit, I decided I was ready to follow that dream. I owe a lot of people in that jail a lot because now, I feel like I'm doing what I was meant to do.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
As most EMT's or fire fighters, i love the adrenaline rush you get when the tones go off. But more than that I love the helping people. I work in the same small town I grew up in, and it feels as though I'm giving back to some of the people who have supported me my whole life.
Top Issues Facing Responders:
In our department, it's the same as anywhere else I think. Some of the equipment we use is considered to be antiquated, but the money isn't in the budget to replace it. We also fight to be able to retain our more dedicated staff due to pay issues.
