Why I Joined Fire/EMS

In the summer of 2003 there was a terrible car accident after a fourth of july party I was attending. It was brutal and I had friends in the vehicle that less than desierable outcomes from it. I could not recall ever feeling so helpless... Standing there taking in the sheer terror without a clue what I could do to help. I refused to be helpless anymore, I wanted to help people.

Why I Love Fire/EMS

It's the only job I would do for free.

Top Issues Facing Responders:

Wages should reflect cost of living, we work hard out there in an uncontrolled environment. Those of you who volunteer your time, you are saints... but probably make decent money at your day jobs. Safety and awareness are the big ones. Too many volunteers are not being trained to the highest of their abilities. We have to practice 90% of the time for what we will be doing 10% of the time.
