About Me:
I'm Johnathan McKiney, a 22 year old volunteer firefighter for my local fire department, and I'm an Emergency Medical Technician for MedStat EMS, which services over 340,000 residents in Northern and Central Mississippi in 13 counties. I hold an Associate of the Arts degree from Northwest Mississippi Community College, as well as a certification from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians as an EMT-Basic; I'm currently also licensed by the State of Mississippi's Board of Health, Bureau of EMS as an Emergency Medical Technician. I've been a volunteer for over two years now, and I am just now beginning my true journey into EMS. In my course of doing this, I've met some amazing people and some amazing things have happened to me that've helped me turn my life around completely. It's made me a better person and I feel like it's given me a new direction in life. If you've got any questions, feel free to follow me and see where my life's going.
I joined the Fire service and EMS because it runs in my family; as far back as my grandfather can tell me, there have been policemen and firefighters in my family, including himself, having worked for Weyerhauser Corporation, and later, the Mississippi Forestry Commission and volunteering with the local fire departments. My personal goal is to eventually attain the level of Paramedic training, and grasp a degree for Public Safety Administration.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
I love the fire service and EMS because it lets you see people at their personal bests; at the same time, you see people at their worst, and it's YOUR job to help them recover from it, or to get them out of that situation. You see all this visceral stuff that normally, people would simply balk at and turn their heads away.
