Why I Joined Fire/EMS
I joined the AF with the intention of being an Xray tech. well that's what they told me anyway. Well I didn't get to do that so they gave me a list and said choose, so FF sounded like the best choice. I left the AF after 8 yrs. and went back to school got my Paramedic and found out how poorly they are paid even with all that knowledge (what a crime) so then the DOD offered me a job so I took it, because getting up every day to go to work and not having the other day to do whatever I wanted really sucked!
Why I Love Fire/EMS
My Co-workers the brotherhood feeling and simply put helping people
Top Issues Facing Responders:
Gov't not taking our professions as serious as they should be. Our union for FF not as strong as they say it is. No unions for EMS which they truly need, to pay a Medic $13 an hr. is robbery especially after you see how much a well established ambulance company can make per ride. To have a lot of medics out do the nurses in some cases is sad!
