I joined the Fire Dept. first, then later joined the EMS Squad. Why I joined he Fir Dept. was because that summer before I joined, I worked for my hometown public works dept. right after a major flood hit our area. The first two weeks that I worked there I spent using the fire dept. secondary pumper, a 1949 IH 409 pumper that leaked water about as fast as it pumped it out, to hose off the mud on all the streets that were covered during the flood. I enjoyed this and was very efficent at operating the pumper that I decided to that I wanted to join the fire dept. As to why Ijoined the EMS squad, this was because while I was running track in hih school, a tammate of mine collapsed during practice and later died that night due to a heart defect that he was born with. Its this memory of him that gets me past the rough calls that I've been on and keeps me going.
Grant, welcome to the FF Nation. I am glad you dropped in to join the group. Dont be shy. There is lots to do, read and be involved with. Your participation and involvement is important to us all. Takes a bit to kinda figure it all out but you will be glad you did. Have fun and look around.
