I was 40yrs old when I moved my family from Cape Town South Africa to Blind Bay, B.C. Canada in 2014. I live to serve others, doing jobs that scares the crap out of the "normal" person. So I joined the Shuswap Volunteer Fire Dept to give back time and energy to a community that welcomed us with open, loving arms. Back in South Africa, a hand full of us citizens(ex-military, ex-Mosad, and all of us fathers and rugby players) banded together to take back our streets from the criminal element. We were VERY heavy handed and armed to the teeth. After a month of us being active, we saw kids playing in the streets and old folk walking their dogs again. We were volunteers, unpaid and on high alert 24/7/365. I loved it! I'm always up for an adventure. I surf, kayak, fish and camp in the summer and snowboard in the winter. I hate being inside even when it's -25DegC. Like most guys in my position with my past, I suffer from anxiety and mild depression. Not sure if I have PTSD as I've never gone to a doc or therapist to be diagnosed.
