Why I Joined Fire/EMS
I ask myself that on a daily basis.... I really enjoy helping people, and of course, like most children, I was a fire truck chaser. I think most of all I like the element of surprise, and in a service such as emergency service's you just never know whats going to happen next.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
Here again.... The element of surprise
Top Issues Facing Responders:
I could go all day, but I will keep it to my primary concerns, I think first and foremost is recruitment and retention in the volunteer fire service, we have found at our department, it is very hard to get personnel to respond all different hours of the day, and I understand that we all have lives and jobs and families, but what can we do to recruit younger members and keep them interested in the service. Another issue I have, is the changes in the fire service and politics, it seems like as everything else in this country, it has went from being a service to a business... if that makes sense, we cant just run our calls, and go home, with someone of the higher power trying to bring you down... Just let take care of our business and you take care of yours!
