About Me:

I grew up around a firehouse, my family was always involved with. I joined that department and was a member there until 2006. In 2004 I began my career in EMS at Hazleton Area Advanced Life Support until the unit went OOS in 2005 at which time I began employment with my current employer. Throughout that time I ran with a few volunteer EMS agencies, and joined a different fire department. This was due to moving away from the area I lived in and closer to work.

It is always a challenge, and you will never learn everything there is to know, and everyday you go to work and every call you go to is different. You can't expect the same outcome, only hope for the best.

Top Issues Facing Responders:

Staffing is always a BIG issue with volunteer agencies. Unfortunately we are seeing a demise in volunteer EMS agencies. This is probably because of the theory "why volunteer when I can get paid to do it?" Which I somewhat agree with, it's a tough issue. Pretty much anyone in EMS will tell you they work two or more jobs because a lot of EMS agencies don't pay very well. This is true in most areas there a few exeptions to that but they are exactly that. The exceptions, not the standard.
