After spending four years in the marines as a Combat Engineer I returned to Freeport NY and joined the Fire Department.
I later became an instructor and rose to Assistant Chief Instructor and was charged with probationary fire school.
Now retired and experiencing too many health problems from time spent working at the Trade Center but very proud of my work there. It was the culmination of my career. I began working there about 10:30 am on the 11th. My lungs and head have taken a beating just like everyone elses.
Live in Brooklyn, NY with my partner, restoring our Brooklyn brownstone.

Why I Joined Fire/EMS
Always knew i wanted to be a firefighter since I chased the fire trucks when i was a kid. My grandfather was Chief of Communications for the FDNY and my Great Great Uncle John Decker was the last Chief of the Metropolitan Volunteer Fire Department (New York City Volunteer Fire Department.) He was Chief Engineer during the draft riots in 1865. Guess you could say it is in my blood.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
No bigger rush than a good job
