The community of Couchton is located approximately 7 miles outside of the town of Aiken South Carolina . Couchton Fire and Rescue ( formerly Couchton Fire Department ) was established in 1972 as part of the aiken county fire service . At this time we operate out of two houses ( Headquarters station located in Couchton and a substation located in the kitchings mill community ) . We cover an area of 75 square miles and have an ISO rating of 4 , we have 9 units in service at this time ( 3 engines , 2 tankers , 1 brush truck , 1 heavy rescue , and 2 light medical rescue First Responder units ) . We are a small department comprared to some others but have worked hard to get where we are today , we have recently purchased our first brand new engine ( 2008 Pierce Contender w/ Freightliner chasis ) . WE have approximately 25 members that have assorted certification such as Firefighter One , First Responder , EMT , and Paramedic . Our members also have assorted class certifications from the South Carolina Fire Academy .
