Why I Joined Fire/EMS
I have a now 32 year old daughter with congenital heart disease who was less than 1 year old daughter when I joined the local volunteer fire demartment and ambulance service in 1977. I primarially wanted to learn emergency medical procedures. I became a Texas EMT - Basic Skills and the first captain of the 24 hour amblunace service for our department. Later I earned the Texas Volunteer Firefighter basic certification. I received extensive training at Texas A&M University Fire School in highrise rescue training, oil/gas processing plant fire control and from the Texas Forest Service in Wildfire prevention and management. After 12 years I moved to the inner city of Houston. I now live in a rural community and wish to share my experience and training with the younger firefighters and first responders.
