At the time I was married, husband was very involved in the fire department run rescue squad. We dispatched the ambulances from our gas station during the days and from home at night. The need to reach beyond the fire department for active members to take the increasing volume of calls became apparent, and I joined several firemen/squad members in lobbying for this. I became the first non-fireman and first woman to be voted in to membership, in 1975. Don't have the husband any more, but I'm still an active member.
