A flue fire that spread into the attic destroyed a Crockett’s Cove Road house on Thursday morning. According to Wytheville Volunteer Fire Department Chief Ronnie King, firefighters were called to the residence at 5:22 a.m. on Thursday and found flames coming out of the roof when they arrived. The home owner and his dog Gus were able to safely make it out of the two-story structure, which had been added to since it was originally built in the 1950s. Firefighters from Wytheville and Max Meadows battled the blaze for hours and pumped an estimated 40,000 gallons of water onto the house.
