West Palm Beach Fire Dept. Regional HAZ-MAT Response Team - West Palm Beach, Florida
From Hackney:
The West Palm Beach Fire Department has strengthened their regional Haz-Mat response team capabilities by adding a Hackney TC1482 Haz-Mat Tractor and Trailer to their fleet.
The 14-compartment trailer with air-ride suspension has a whooping 1000 cu.ft. of useable storage capacity, not counting the roof top compartment and command center. The command center features all-aluminum cabinets with stainless steel desk/counter top. It seats three personnel and is environmentally controlled.
The compartments feature an array of adjustable shelves and slide-out trays strategically placed for specific equipment. A two-sided, 78" high x 40" deep slide-out tool board provides convenient storage for spark-free shovels and other salvage type tools. A special isolated and vented rope compartment protects ropes from contamination. A RevolveAir 2x2 fill enclosure with cascade control panel, booster pump and eight (8) 6000 psi storage cylinders provide convenient on-site bottle refills. Twelve (12) spare SCBA’s are transported on a slide-out rack with "back-up and go" donning capability. A total of twenty two spare SCBA bottles are located next to the air fill station. Full length awnings are located on both sides of the trailer, providing shade and weather protection.
Other features include LED tail lights, LED ICC lights, LED auxiliary upper stop lights, Federal Traffic Advisor, Federal GHSCENE lights on both sides and rear of the trailer, Whelen LED upper and lower zone warning lights, David-Clark intercom system, electronic siren and air horns. A Safety Vision rearview camera is provided on the rear of the trailer to enhance operational safety.
A 25KW Onan PTO generator is mounted on the tractor with umbilical connections to the trailer. It powers multiple outlets around the apparatus, strip outlets in the command center, command center air conditioner and lights, fluorescent compartment lights, two (2) Hannay ECR1624-17-18 cord reels, two (2) Focus tri-pod flood lights on the left rear of the trailer, 9000 watt multi-directional NighScan light tower and refrigerator/freezer.
The tractor of choice was a Kenworth T300 with 330 hp Cummins and Allison MD3060 transmission.
