The issue is made even worst since it was the last "truck". Apparently then there are other firefighters at the scene already taking care of it, and the smoke is turning to gray steam meaning they are getting the wet stuff on the red stuff. Since there are already people on the scene, there is NO HURRY. And there is NEVER a reason for a person to be riding on the tail board or side step of a moving vehicle. The driver of the engine should have stopped, and made the guy on the side get off. He could have walked teh half block to the fire. At least that would improve his chances of getting there to help out. Safety is everyone's responsibility. Any department that will allow this type of behavior needs a serious dose of reality and safety 101. The driver and the side riding dude ( I won't degrade the term "firefighter" by calling him one) both should have their emergency response stopped until they learn some basics. In many departments, they would be requested to turn in their gear and exited from the department.

FYI, the rig actually is an engine, not a truck. "Trucks" are ladder trucks).

I put the picture in another app just so I could blow it way up...The person isn't just standing on the running board with the door open but is also in the process of suiting up. They are fastening the collar of their bunker coat. I know we all did somethings we shouldn't have back in our day but never in my wildest imagination would I do that! So many things could go wrong!!!

I sure hope that the engine isnn't moving while the person is riding on the side step. However, looking at the LDH, it appears he engine is moving (or it is real windy). Everybody use your gray mattter. If you don't get to the fire, you can't help those who called you.
