What sets apart the DEP's DERTA from other HAZMAT teams in NYC, even that of the FDNY's Hazardous Materials Company 1 is that unlike those other teams which are staffed with HAZMAT technicians and specialists, the DEP because of it's highly technical nature staffs it's team exclusively with chemists and engineers. However, the FDNY's Hazardous Materials Company 1 has more experience and is the most active responder to anything involving HAZMAT in the city.

Also, DEP DERTA rarely sees action on the streets on NYC as it is a small assest in comparison to the FDNY which has many of the same assests of DEP DERTA but also the manpower to adequately blanket the city with proper HAZMAT/CBRNE coverage.

DEP DERTA is perhaps one of the city's best kept secrets when it comes to HAZMAT/CBRNE. It is relatively unknown and maintains a low-profile whereas the FDNY's Hazardous Materials Company 1 recieves much of the limelight by virtue of being the top responder of HAZMAT/CBRNE incidents in the city.
