At approximately 12:51 PM on Friday, January 12, 2024, Melbourne police officers responded to the area of W H Jackson Street and the railroad tracks just west of South Harbor City Boulevard regarding a vehicle versus train crash. Upon arrival, officers discovered that a 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche Pickup Truck was traveling west on W H Jackson street and was struck by a southbound Brightline train operating on the eastern most railway. The vehicle involved in the crash had two adult occupants and both the driver and passenger of this vehicle succumbed to their injuries sustained by the impact from the train.
