The Hackney TC1682 Haz-Mat trailer is one of two tractor and trailers purchased by Dothan Fire-Rescue as part of the Alabama Regional Response Team, Region 8 serving southeastern Alabama and the panhandle of Florida. The second trailer is designed specifically for USAR and Technical Rescue responses (see separate profile).
The 41-ft long trailer features 16 side load compartments, 14 with roll-up doors and two environmentally controlled hinged door compartments for Level A suits. The air suspension tandem axle trailer provides a whopping 1262 cu.ft. of storage, excluding the roof top compartments and command center.

Two saddle tank provide a total 120 gallon fuel capacity for long responses and on scene duration's. Five air suspension seats and an air suspension cab provide comfort for long responses for the team members.
A command and logistics center is provided on the back of the trailer with aluminum cabinets and stainless steel work counter and desk with filing cabinet. The area is heated and cooled from both the generator and shorepower.. A WeatherPak 400 system is integrated into the computer system.

Eight complete SCBA's are transported on a slide-out "back-up and go" donning configuration tray. Twelve spare SCBA bottles are stored above the fill station.
The 20-hp compressor, multi-directional light tower, environmental system, 120V compartment lights, command center lighting, tripod portable flood lights, cord reels and multiple outlets are powered by a 40kw Onan PTO generator with quick disconnect umbilical connections between the tractor and trailer.
The trailer design provides low ground height at the compartment floors (21"). All tall compartments are 43" deep from floor to ceiling. Awnings with curtains are provided on both sides of the trailer to augment rehab and command operations.
The tractor and trailer are 100% multiplexed featuring a large LCD screen for operations, textual warning, diagnostics and graphics displays. The screen also serves as a monitor for the back-up camera and GPS.
