Cuba’s Colon Cemetery has a 75-foot high Bomberos (Firefighters) monument dedicated to the firefighters who lost their lives in the great fire of May 17, 1890.
The faces of the lost firefighters are carved into the monument. “Teardrops” hang from the chains around the monument symbolizing the grief of their families.
Even today firefighters with five years of service are entitled to be buried in the tomb
