SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Officials say a firefighter and another person have been injured at a large fire that engulfed at least three buildings near San Francisco's historic Alamo Square.
Fire Capt. Jeanne Seyler says the firefighter was taken to the hospital for some burns to the neck and a resident was being treated for smoke inhalation.
The five-alarm blaze began shortly before noon Thursday, sending a pillar of thick smoke rising over the residential neighborhood. More than 120 firefighters were called in to battle flames at two apartment buildings and at least one other structure.
Seyler says firefighters believe that they have successfully evacuated everyone from the buildings. Other nearby residents are being instructed to stay where they are.
