It is hard to believe but it took 50 years for the firefighters who fought the London Blitz (1940-1941) to have a commemerative service to say thank you for their courage and bravery. The service was held in St Paul's Cathedral in 1990. One year later the Blitz memeorial statue was unveiled by Her Majesty The Queen Mother in the shadow of St Paul's which, by some miracle or act of God, have survived all the bombing.
