February 27, 2014
Crew were dispatched about 12:45pm to the Westgate Mobile Home Park at 14099 Belcher Road in Largo. The response was for a reported grease fire involving smoke and flames. Units from Largo’s Station 38 reported heavy smoke showing from from the structure upon their arrival.
All occupants (four adults and one child) self evacuated from the structure prior to the fire departments arrival. Units on scene were able to visualize at least one cat at the window of the mobile home. Crews initiated a fast attack and were able to quickly get the cat out of the structure. There were reports of additional dogs, cats and a rabbit inside the structure. The fire was extinguished within 10 minutes and the additional animals were rescued. The occupants of the home were medically evaluated and there did not appear to be any serious injuries. Residents were being assisted by the Red Cross.
