Coast Guard Lifesaving Award

I took the time about a year ago to write up a young woman who put her life in risk to save an infant strapped in a car seat in an upside down car that had rolled several times. Compounding the risk was the location of the vehicle which was on NB Hwy 101 at the Gaviota Curve which is a "blind curve". Once my engine arrived on scene and six orange safety cones were put out, a vehicle smashed into the first four cones, spinning sideways towards the rear of the fire engine, almost taking out the fire apparatus driver. This young lady was a hero that night and after a couple of letters and a lot of time, was finally recognized for her heroic actions.

As a retired Coastie I want to thank you for the time you spent getting this young Coast Guardsman the recognition she was due. Coast Guard personnel routinely put their life on the line for people that they don't know. This is why our moto is Semper Paratus "Always Prepared". Again thanks.
