1953 Ford/Howard Cooper; 750/300. This rig was the first to be custom built for the FHFD, and was an active unit until 1985. Originally built with a 200 gallon tank, it was enlarged to hold 300 gallons some time down the road. Time has been somewhat hard to this engine; the pump froze a few years ago, and the engine suffered significant front end damage in the '70's, when the rig rolled down the hill, through the back of Kings Market. Still, as the department nears its centennial next year, Engine 1 continues to be a favorite in local parades. At this point, the odometer shows a little over 18,000 miles.
