Built in 1929 the snagboat W.T. Preston was operated by the Army Corps of Engineers for 52 years, before being retired in 1981. The last of the classic sternwheelers on Puget Sound, The Preston is now permanently moored on dry land, near the old train station in Anacortes. The vessel was placed on the National Register of Historic places in 1972, and became a National Historic Landmark in 1989.
