Why I Joined Fire/EMS

When I first met my husband, he was on a fire dept. And, as time went on, I desided to join also. I am so glad I did. I have always wanted to do something in the medical field, and now I am. I am a First Responder and an interior firefighter.
As a Lieutenant, I have learned so much and owe a great deal to my fellow firefighter brothers and sisters.

Why I Love Fire/EMS

the ability and know-how to help others in need/distress.

Top Issues Facing Responders:

the paid guys knocking out the volunteers. I'm not sure how the other departments in other states or counties are, but here, it's bad. Ever since the county has put paid firefighters in our volunteer departments, the volunteers have quit. They get to do the hard labor work,..(cleaning hoses, reloading hoses...ect) while the paid guys get to sit and watch. It's not right!!
I'm so glad we are an independant department so we don't have to have a paid guy in our station. We have enough volunteers to keep this department running smoothy and expanding.
