Primary Fire/EMS Department:
Butte County Fire/ Co. 25
Years With Department/Agency

My Training:
First Responder/Operator, Squad, Engine Water Tender
About Me:
I have developed training for response to heavy construction collapse incidents. The scope of machines and materials used in heavy construction easily surpasses the capacity of most rescue squads. I focus on developing a collabaration with construction personel who are familiar with manipulating heavy material and usually have the equipment and operators on site to do it. I have presented the training several times to local fire departments who have had heavy construction projects come to their response area. I presented it to most of the Butte County Fire Department before they were called to respond to the 149/70 falsework collapse. Most of the responders to that incident had been to my presentation and were aware of what to expect. I think the preplanning made a difference.
Day Job:
Civil Engineer, Bridge Construction, California Dept. Transportation
Why I Joined Fire/EMS
To give back to the community and to be there for my family, friends, and neighbors in their time of need. Not everyone has the capability to do it for whatever reasons. I have the capability to do it and feel privalidged to be able to serve my community in such a fulfilling way.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
I think I can make a difference in someones life and have fun doing it. The relationships in the fire department are irreplaceable!
Top Issues Facing Responders:
Funding.
