Why I Joined Fire/EMS
Even as a kid I loved the flashing lights, sound of sirens and the adrenalin rush of an emergency. I also get a great sense of worth when I can make a difference in someone's life for the good. There is a sense of gratitude for your life when you can make someone else's better. I love EMS and always will!!
Why I Love Fire/EMS
It gives me great self-worth to help others in their time of need.
Top Issues Facing Responders:
Violence/ Personal safety/ Communicable diseases/ Lack of information/ PTS/ Proper Gear/

Why I love being a paramedic!

I was working the 6 P.M. to 6 A.M. shift and it was dragging. We got a call for respiratory distress...turned out to be bogus. The patient was not keen on being transported but I felt something was wierd...his color was off. I asked if he had any trouble urinating lately.....of course he denied any problems. I convinced him to come with us for a check-up just the same. During transport, the patient out of the blue say's "Are you still here"? Then he goes into full seizure mode! Next thing I know he ain't breathing! The monitor shows flat line....what the hell is going on? I hit him once and get a rythm back....shaky but a rythm just the same. I had to assist ventillations for the rest of the ride. At the E.R. we go straight to the Code Room. The E.R. doc takes over. I finish my paper work and go back to have a look-see. The patient is sitting up and asks for a glass of water! The E.R. doc says..."Hey, nice save...this patient hasn't urinated in over 72 hours...he was super hyperkalemic, another hour or so and he would have arrested in bed". Listen to those voices in your head! Unless they are saying...jump, jump!!

We don't have patches at dispatch...we only wear tshirts and jeans to work, and I can't remember if the director and asst director even have patches on their shirts haha. If we ever do get them I'll be sure to send one your way though!
Thats really exciting about the Honour Guard. I hope that all works out well for you!
I remember you were having problems with your back when we were talking before, has that gotten better?

Things are going pretty good for me. I'm still working as a dispatcher for police/fire/ems, as well as working at Lifeway Christian part-time. I'm also volunteering with the local fire dept when I have time, and still the secretary there.
What about you? Any big changes since we talked last?

Hey!
I was just looking back through my old comments and saw where we used to talk all the time...thought I'd say hello :)
Hope you're doing well.
