Good luck with trying to get into Houston FD. Does Pasadena FD have any specialized training volunteers can take in terms of HAZMAT? I know you said you interested in HAZMAT if you joined the FD in Houston so it might be a good idea to try and exhaust every avenue and aspect of HAZMAT training that the Pasadena FD would be willing to give to you. It obviously won't hurt your case if you have prior HAZMAT training - volunteer or not - when you apply for Houston FD Hazardous Materials Response Team.

Take care.

Sounds like you have been trying to get into Houston FD for a while. I hope you eventually make it. What's wrong with Pasadena?

As for HAZMAT, it's a good way to go if you are interested in work that is both challenging, technical and interesting. Good luck!!!
