  • Leslie Cruise

Hi Chad, We aren't seeing any real effects from the hurricane yet, just a little wind I live in North Alabama so we are hoping it won't get that bad for us. As for my training, I've not been with the fire dept long. So far the only actually training class I have had is the meth lab detection and safety course. A DEA officer came and gave a training seminar on it. It was very informational, with our area being so rural, we have to be prepared for them, for our safety. Nice chatting with you. ttyl Have a safe day!!
  • Shawn

Hi Chad - You are correct abouyt Yellowstone, but I didn't think it has been that long ago - my GOD I must be getting old!!! STAY SAFE BROTHER!!!

    Hello Chad, how are you?

thanks for the concerns. We had a bit of a slow season. our A crew was in california for 30 days on the Soda Complex, which I joined them for the last 9 days. A crew was called out again to a fire in southern Oregon. B crew was called out twice, once for a fire near Roseburg, OR and Sisters, OR, I was present at both. Our engine was in Califoria on the Iron complex for 14 days and did a couple patroling missions in sourthern washington. I think it was a bad season, both in the way that civies see it and the way wildland FF's see it.

were you out there at all this summer? if so how was your season, hopefully you had a slightly better season.
  • Yee

Thank you!! not much going on here either. Just came up to the station to see some people and the engine and ambo are gone. Must have missed a call. Oh well not the first and certainly not the last. Stay safe!
  • Toni

no actually I am working in public safety (fire and police) I just happen to have to go by RDU and they took me on a tour and took me out on the runway to flow some water and it was really interesting. You don't even have to get out to fight fire. It was great
  • Shelby

    Hey TEXAS is alrite here a lil cold..but not that bad!! :}
  • holly

    hey how are things there?
  • Jennica Stout

You know, last weekend when we were supposed to get the ice and snow it never arrived after a much hyped prediction. This time, we got nailed on Weds with little fanfare. Temp now is -10, kids are out of school for the second day...tomorrow supposed to be 26, a heat wave, lol...
  • Mouse NRFD 1947

    thats a true statment thanks

    Hi Chad,
Things are really tight budget-wise, not just for OFPC, but their budget cuts are resulting in a dramatic cut in training. You're going to start seeing some of the statewide associations and organizations banding together to find and fund training, but there's only so much we can do.
My reccomendation to you would be to look into applying for a FEMA grant--and hiring yourself some state instructors to get the training you need if you get the grant cash.
  • Amanda

hey stranger i have not talked to in while. how are things going?
  • Bill MacLean

    G'day Chad,

  • Noggy

Hi Chad, sorry for the late reply! Things are good here in the Emerald Isle, we're busy with calls here (a lot of MVA's and house fires lately - not nice at all) so that's keeping me out of trouble (for a while anyway!). We're all looking forward to Paddy's Day here and to cap it all off I'll be off duty so I'll be drowning the shamrock like there's no tomorrow!!! How's things with you and yours?
  • Feisty

Thank you for the warm welcome... julie
  • Mark A. Duell

Hey guy. I remember ya. How are things going? Your old Dept. (Eldred) has been pretty busy lately! We've been called for mutual aid over there a lot this year! Lot of structure fires. HEY I'm not complaining though! Anytime we can make a run, I'm all for it. I like your photos. Take care and keep in touch.
  • Mark A. Duell

Chad, are you a EMT? If so, you would probably like JEMS.COM if you are not on it already.
  • Cassandra

    Thanks :)
  • Mike Lintz

yeah its cold but you get used to it and its an awesome experience.
  • Mike Lintz

Between Feb and aug the station is "shut down" no planes in or out. because of this we close our secound station and drop staffing from 55 to 12. during the summer months (august - feb) we have planes in and out from both the south pole and new zealand on a daily basis
  • Amanda

not a whole lot. how are you
  • Mike Lintz

There is very minimal during the winter months the population drops from about 1100 in summer and 150 in winter. just doing indoor projects and maintance mostly
  • Mark A. Duell

Did you guys go to that structure/wild fire in Scio today?
  • Toni

I am currently in the police academy since we do both. It's a challenge but I have 6 weeks left so hopefully I'll survive
  • Wayne Paollili Jr.

thanks for the tanker comment. yeah we get a lot of good comments about it. hope all is well up in new york.
  • Katie

yeah.. im a firefighter haha. we come in all shapes forms and sizes.
  • Shelby

A whole lot of nothing here and what about you??
  • Toni

Sorry for the delay...What we do is when we arrive at work we are either assigned to the street or the station based on who is working. We have a Captain on the street and a Lt. on the street and then we have an Lt. in the station and one other firefighter and the rest are assigned to police. Everyone has fire gear in their vehicle and if a fire happens then we all respond, fight it and then return to the street. Again sorry for the delay.
  • Mark A. Duell

Hey Chad, whats going on? Have you been busy like us the last 2 weekends!! Wildfire season is prime around here! 60, 80 acres at a time. We were at Eldred yesterday helping them fight there big one in the woods. Lets just say people are making the Forestry Dept work for their money this year.
