  • David Ebel

Thanks. Glad to find the site. I would be honored to be your friend. I just started a new site for emergency and disaster workers: http://disasterresponders.ning.com.

Please stop by and check it out... it's new... but can meet a need just like your site is but available to caregivers that are not all first responders but sure do a lot to make life better.

    Blessings

    David

I am always pleased to say hello and welcome to the "Sally Ann" . I have attended a couple of major incidents that they were attending and their caring really impressed me.
    Cheers
  • David Ebel

Thanks for the welcome. So pleased that you could come in contact with some of our fellow Salvation Army officers and volunteers.

Where we live in Kern County, CA (Bakersfield is the big city) we are less than 1 hour from the most dangerous dam in America (Army Corps of Engineers was quoted saying "The most damned dam in America"... in addition, we have earthquake, wind storms, a variety of fires and of course... floods.

I spend most of my time at this point in Fire Services as a Chaplain and CISM disaster leader. Somehow, I ended up as the only official Trained Trainer in CISM in our county. So it has become increasingly important to make that disaster mental health component is available to First Responders, Second Responders and other support staff including news reporters who come to the event, see the trauma and document it without anyone to debrief them or help them deal with what they have seen. To that end I have started a web discussion site called http://disasterresponders.ning.com. which will never compete with this site but will allow for others that do not have a place like this to vent, debrief and get support. It is brand new... and ... we would love the word to get out. I have a couple trained trauma and grief specialists and several other CISM experts available for making sure if someone needs it that they can log on anonymously and still get the support all of us need.

I am so glad I have found this site and look forward to great fellowship.

    Blessings,

    David Ebel
  • David Ebel

    Thanks for the encouragement!

We served at the Malibu Fire at a smaller location we provided over 3000 meals and all kinds of coffee, water, soda and more plus provided CISM Disaster Mental Health to evacuees and Firefighters, Police and all who asked.

Some of the responders, the non fire types, did not get enough followup when they saw some pretty difficult things.... so we are now opening http://disasterresponders.ning.com in hopes of providing that support now and in future emergencies and disasters/

    Blessings

    David

I'm in Hanover park, not too far from Romeoville. Our congregation actually is in a space and ministry sharing agreement with a SA Corps - and it's great. www.lclutheran.org
Nice to see some SA folks on here,
    God Bless
  • Jennie Swanson

Most of my EDS and CISM training is through SA, and I love it. I started taking classes there after I joined the FD because the chaplain before me was SA(Mark Johnson). It's a great family to be a part of - too bad I'm a Lutheran. Besides, my Chief said I can only wear one uniform - his! But I'll be around here and there. maybe I'll see you sometime. Who knows what the future will bring. Good to meet you.

  • David Ebel

That is mind blowing... no matter how many times I have seen that footage for all these years I cannot even imagine the kind of person that could think up such carnage or violence man against man.

The use of scripture was excellent!

    Blessings

    David
