Currently a paramedic. Also certified in ops level VMR and rope rescue; technician level structural collapse, trench rescue, confined space rescue, and hazardous materials.
I have completed Fire Officer I certification classes and am one class away from finishing Fire Officer II.
About Me:
I've been a cop and a firefighter-being a firefighter is MUCH better!!
I enjoy the dynamic challenge that every shift presents. It isn't the same dull, sit-at-a-desk kind of job that slowly kills people. It makes me think and challenge myself to become better every day.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
The diversity and the fact that my cohorts will do anything to help a brother or sister out.
Top Issues Facing Responders:
Politics and financial issues can be extremely difficult for agencies. Getting the average politician and tax payer to understand why we need up to date equipment and recommended minimum staffing are difficult, up hill battles.
Check out Roll Call Groups and put some info about your Fire House in... Like to hear what your station is like, what you have as well as for number for firefighters as well as number of calls. Pass it around to your Firefighter Friends too....Easy way to located this group is go to my site and look at the bottom left. Short cut if you have a hard time locating this.
Also as a Training Officer, theres the Trainers Corner too. Like to hear some of what your doing for training or what areas need to be addressed...
As far as I know it is supposed to work for any type of bite or bee sting. And with my apologies it wasnt Garlic it was onion ~ sheepish smile~ I was being asked about Garlic yesterday by my cousin when I posted and I guess my mind transposed it to my message to you.
Hey Heather, thanks for the invite , Hope to see youin My forum as well.. If your interested , there is a bagpipes group here as well, very very new, 3 or 4 actual experianced pipers there, Oh I p/m'd you some imfo in the forum.... about starting and possible connections down your neck of the woods..
MOney is always an issue !! lol lets be real, figure 125 to get a chanter, and tutor to get you started.... a set of pipes is around 1200.00 NOT SOO terrible, specially if youstart putting aside money in a xmas club or every otherOT check or something.. If youbought an electric guitar or other instrument it would be generally speaking about the same (unless youwant to start a triangle band) :) ...... The highland garb aspectis another couple grand, But doesnt have to befor a while until you can establish support or fund raising , of some sort...believe me IF it was thatterrible, we wouldn't have over 100 bands nationally today, when there were only 15 or 20 in 1990..... baby steps, but with planning.. its a time and money committment talking to the guys about how to do it, will bring your dream to fruition.. Beleieve me the guys in your state are very supportive of each other, Florida is one of the first states who's Fire bands have gotten close and dio several events a year together, they support each other, a lot..
yep, one step at a time, you begin learning scales and notes etc, using the college of piping tutor I mentioned the do this "in a tune" so youklearn how to play music, not just notes.. as you go.. ifyou have gotten to the pointwhere you can memorize and play 3 or 4 or 5 tunes, youshould be "ready to begin the pipes process...its physical, so again one step at a time, andbeforeyoujknowit your playing the tunesyouknow, on the pipes, and continue learning on the practicechanter as you put what you know on the pipe, all the while building your diaphram... and getting stronger.... itsa processof processes... :)
Thanks for the congrats! I wasn't at Jax that year, so I'm not sure why I'd recognize it....it looked a little like FDIC in Indy. Oh well. Stay safe, talk soon.

I read your narrative. I absolutely loved it. You made me get chills. I think you should write some more and post them.
