Why I Joined Fire/EMS
Serve the community in a real way. friends were involved in the fire service. Iwas in law enforcement and it kept me down to earth.

The inner satisfaction of knowing that in any crises I can do something that will help the situation.
Top Issues Facing Responders:
Losing the macho immage and increasing safety in all areas of fire service. Placing a higher value on physical fitness in the Volunteer service. ( Career service personnel are getting or already have the message).

My thoughts and prayers go out to everybody in Bob's family, as well as his "fire" family. May he rest in peace, and may his legacy live on.
--If I'm gone when you wake up, please don't cry. And if I'm gone when you wake up, don't ask why. Don't look back on this time as a time of heartbreak and distress. Remember me. Remember me, 'cause I'll be with you in your dreams.--
With many thoughts and prayers,

I am called to many duties lord and now I've been called home.
I've had to leave the ones I love To stand before your throne.
I'll not complain, its not my way But there are some things I'll ask.
And please , Lord, grant them to me For the loved ones I hold fast.
I dare to ask because I know How you've blessed in the past.
I've learned to trust in your grace, O Lord That's how I've come this far.
So now, O God, I humbly pray Hear my prayer.
Bless my wife and family -- so often left alone, They knew where I was going and Trusted you to bring me home.
Well, now I'm home and wait for them Keep them within the faith -- that one day, Someday, we'll be together in this place.
And O Dear God, bless my men & women, I trained them as best I could.
I tried to do your will with them and lead them as you would.
I need to know your with them Lord Or else how can I stay
And peacefully enjoy this place of endless day.
This heaven where there is no night No fire to kill and burn I guess that's why its now my rest, my place, my turn.
And Lord, be with my community And keep it safe as it can be For all its folks are special, and very dear to me.
They are all my friends, and by your grace I served them as best I could.
So hear my prayer, O Lord And grant it please -- I already knew you would.
My brother, from the time that i joined our dept. 5 years ago you were my mentor. I looked up to you like so many others have done before. I sit here at my computer listening to bag pipes that you loved. There are is so much more i would have liked to ask you and tell you. I will always have a part of you in my heart and mind. Without you I wouldnt be half the firefighter i am now.
May you rest in peace, look down on all your brothers around the wourld and grant us peace. God bless you brother Newell, you will never be forgotten.

To Roberts firefighter and other family i would like to send you a prayer and say i'm sorry for your loss. You may have had your last call on earth but you will never be forgotten and also you now watch over you brothers and sisters from above so we as firefighters are truly blessed and lucky to have someone like you watching over us GOD BLESS!!!
To Robert's Family and Friends. So sorry to hear that loss of Robert. He did so much in his life, His dedication to the Fire Service makes him a special man. And even tho its hard to say good bye, remember he is peace with the lord watching over you. My thoughts and Prayers are with you in this time of sorrow. GOD BLESS
I had the pleasure of serving with and learning from Bob while I was at Hamburg. It is no exaggeration to say that it's impossible to measure how much of himself he dedicated to the community and the fire service. He led by example and experience and was willing to allow others to lead with a supportive attitude. Everyone in Hamburg, as well as the entire Western New York region owes respect to this man. However, although his passing is a immense loss to the community, Bob has left an indelible legacy that everyone in the fire service will benefit from.
He will be greatly missed.
It is with great sadness that today we say goodbye to OUR BROTHER, OUR FRIEND, OUR MENTOR we will miss you, but we our richer for having known you, the fire service and the world has lost a great person. Thank you for making the world a better place and teaching us all how to be the best like you. REST IN PEACE!
I was a student in Bob's final Firefighter 1 class. He was a great teacher, mentor, and a great guy. There were so many times he would cheer me on in class, due to my big size. And he always made a joke, or just had fun in class. Outside of the classroom, he was great guy to be around, and an even funnier. I am proad to have had the privlage to have been taught by such an amazing instructer. He once told me that he looked at every firefighter in Erie County, and he said he had taught 85- 90% of ALL the firefighters in EC. That was amazing. And I feel sorry for all the new firefighters coming in the field, that couldn't better their skills by taking one of Bob's classes. Rest in Peace dear friend, and mentor of mine forever.
and in the words of Mr. Newell- "Omnis Cedo Domus"- Everyone Gos Home, and Bob is home too.
I took many classes of Bob's, too many too recall, he was a great teacher. Rest In Peace. Your legacy lives on in all of us who were lucky enough to have you grace us with your knowledge... Every day when we respond to that alarm, you live on with us.
God Bless Brother.
To all Famiily and Friends;
May God Strengthing you in this time of sorrow and give you understanding and peace. Heaven has gained an angel and earth has lost a hero. R.I.P. Brother
To The Family And Friends Of Robert Newell Im Deeply Sorry To Hear Of Yor Loss Im Sure Bob Was A Big Insperation And Influence On So Many I Pray That God Gives You Comfort And Strength In Your Time Of Sorrow. God Bless And R.I.P In Peace Brother
Bob was my intermediate fire instructor a few years back (not many -- I haven't had the pleasure of knowing Bob prior to 2000) and our paths have crossed on occasion since then. I always enjoyed our chance meetings and conversations, and always felt that I was in the presence of someone whose worth in our chosen avocation exceeded what was immediately apparent.
Too many of our brothers pass too young! I know that Bob will be sorely missed by his fellows in the corps of fire instructors, the Hamburg Fire Department, those many firefighters who've benefited from his influence, and especially his family.
For my Brother has fallen, God into your hands. My Brother has fallen; no, I don't know his name. Have not the same parents still family all the same. He lives in this town, I live in another, It doesn't really matter 'cause this man is my Brother. My Brother I call him, yet I've never seen his face. I have brothers and sisters all over the place! You see I am a Firefighter and our families are one. Around the world, a brotherhood of unity, A closeness, a bond, bond, most people don't see. I'll watch his back; She'll watch mine, "You go, I go," time after time. His family's my family, Her family theirs, We're part of one family where everyone cares, I'll look after your kids, please look in on my wife, Should that day finally come when I laid down my life. We dedicate our lives helping our fellow man, Living day after day doing all that we can, Where ever we're needed whether nighttime or day, To save the life of another we'll step in harms way. My Brother has fallen doing what he loved best, And among the Honored, he now stands with the rest For a mile in dress uniform here everyone stands, For my Brother has fallen, God into your hands
I've posted the eulogy I gave this morning at Bob's funeral. His brother firefighters in the Hamburg Volunteer Fire Department did a tremendous job of honoring the man that Bob was.
My helmet is off to them for rallying as a team to make the family and friends feel at home in Bob's fire station where the funeral was held.

Remember that it was meant to be.
Lay me down and when you leave,
Remember I’ll be at your sleeve.
In every dark and choking hall,
I’ll be there as you slowly crawl.
On every roof in driving snow,
I’ll hold your coat, and you will know.
The house from which I now respond,
Is overstaffed with heroes gone.
Men who answered one last bell,
Did the job and did it well.
As firefighters we understand,
That death’s card dealt in our hand.
A card we hope we never play,
But one we hold there anyway.
That card is something we ignore,
As we crawl across a weakened floor.
For we know that we’re the only prayer,
For anyone that might be there.
So remember as you wipe your tears,
The joy I knew throughout the years.
As I did the job I loved to do,
I pray that thought will see you through.
Condolences to the family. Your loss is greatly felt through-out. Bless you all, Deborah -- Dallas, TX
