Is anybody out there using the Petzl Alp's as part of your rescue gear. Any comments on it's performance compared to the ID Stop?
  • ROB ELLIOTT

hey fredrik were using petzl vertical rescue equipment here in nsw australia and i use petzl in my personal equipment just wondering if you guys are using fullboady harnesses we have just stared using them here and we were told that if we dont have full boady harness we dont go over the edge
  • Frederik Munnik

Hi Rob, yip we have been using fullbody a.k.a. class 3 harnesses for some time now. The class 2 or conventional sit / sport harness is not for rescue as per our SOP. Reason being what goes up must come down and vise versa. Thus you must be able to ascend when you descend. What we classify as a class 2 harness does not allow one to do this. We also make use of the confined space lifting harnesses from Petzl or a locally manufactured one. But the principle remains the same. What descenders do you make use of? We are currently moving over to the ID stop as the Petzl Alp is no longer obtainible in South Africa. Rack bars is used by rescue squads futher north, I have never been over with one myself. Any comments on any of these?

Dave, what aspect of Tech Rescue are you looking for? TEEX (College Station, TX) will teach just about everything. Don't know if traveling to Central Texas would be an option for you.
