I work on the Santa Fe NF Pecos/ Las Vegas RD, In NM Most of the first time guys that apply for the South West Firefighting crew will have to take a Rookie class called S-130,S-190, for like 5 days then take a test its not hard, then after you pass the test you'll have to take a Work Capacity Test which is a pack test. The pack test consist of walking with a Pack test vest that is 45 lbs. under 46 min. 15 sec. There is a great web site that you can go to just type USFS and it will let you in to all the Forest service web sites. Oh good luck and welcome aboard.
alright thanks for the help
