Anthony,
I must agree with everyone's advise,FF1 is a great stepping stone to all avenues of the emergency services, and with all of the cuts that the state keeps making classes are harder to come by and that only lesseness the possibility of actually getting into one due to size of class limitations.
You'll kick your self in the butt later if you don't grasp the chance while you have it.
Anthony-The one thing I didn't say about doing Fire and EMS that has helps me is you know what the other side needs to do-If you were to take a FF1 class then something like First responder class it would help you in any rescue calls-Like Pete and Dave said get the core of emergency services 1st then just like Hasmat or Ropes if you want to expant then go for it ! The main thing is you are interested in helping your community !

ANthony, if you don't take FF1 you are just cutting your options down. Once you finish the class you will be able to make a better decision of what you like better.

Anthony, Take ff1 first, then you can decide what avenue to take after that. EMS is a part of the system, but the system revolves mostly around fire, (vehicle extrication, rescues, etc. )
Firefighting is best-I have done EMS and found if you stick with one thing you will be more happy and better trained-Today it takes alot of time to do either so if you pick one you will do better- Just my thoughts some may tell you different
