I've been in my fire department since I was 12, that is as young as you can be to get accepted. As soon as I got done with the 6 month probation(we had no checkoff sheet at the time)I was able to ride 10-18 in any truck and also get a friend or family member to bring me to a call. Since the department is so small juniors pretty much got to do everything the yellow helments got to do except for going interior firefighting and hydrolic equipment on calls. Now the firemen and the board are saying no, I cant ride in the trucks anymore because technicly your to supposed to if your under 18(the cheif got scared cause we had a junior get hurt being stupid one day, almost killed both of us)...but their 3 and 4 year old kids can because they are their kids. Does that make sence? After 4 almost 5 years of being in that station and riding in those trucks, I know every truck like the back of my hand. Now if we get a call while im at the station I cant go. I can't even ride to the gas station to fuel up on Sunday stand by, and I check off every trucks by myself every stand by! If anybody knows anything about these rules or a way to get around them somehow please help. thanks
Dude, your from Maine? Most of my family are from Portland Maine, I live there in the summer. Do you guys still get to ride trucks and stuff? I am doing so much research and crap just to get to do what I used to be able to . So are you a junior or explorer or what? I know some people in Gorham fire department and their rules are that you have to be 16 just to start being in the station, not counting the probation and check off sheet and all of the classes. I know man, that rule is retarted, but your lucky cause that rule might take years to apply to your station. So how much do they let u do as far as calls and stuff?
