Cold weather operations
I know this was a general discussion a while back on the forums but it seems like a super topic for here.I was just curious as to anybody else's winter ops.I like to keep the pump circulating the whole time to keep it from freezing but I know a lot of folks who drain them too.Just a spot to list ANY cold weather tips and tricks.Thanks in advance.

Not much of an issue where I abode now but when I lived in Oregon we always ran with our pumps dry, with the main drain open. This was not so much because of the chance of freezing but because the instances where we had to put our pump in gear was a little less.

I also like to keep the pump circulating while out of quarters when the temp gets near freezing.

Same here, we drain the pumps and then recirculate while out on a scene. We also have a tanker/tender that has a front mount pump that we put a cover over it.

We run wet pumps and when on scene put pump in gear and circulate,

In northern Vt. 20 miles from the Canadian border we run wet pump, never had a problem there but the primer freezing up is another story, a pan under the truck from one side of the body to the other can help. We do circulate water on scene like everyone else to keep from freezing. We keep the temp in our station 55 in the winter.
