I like training where you are set up to learn, not fail. I took a FAST class in NY where it was very organized and well planned. what they added to all that organization and clear communication was disorganization and confusing communication once the team was inside looking for the victim. We knew this was going to happen. I thought it was about the most realistic training I had done to date. Radio traffic was conflicting, messages were not replied to as if they were not received, Actors (firemen posing as civilians) were hysterical on the fire ground, Television, radio, smoke alarms and other noise was loud in the building.
Our team found our victim under a mattress (ask me why he was under a mattress), we hooked him up and were proceeding out the way we came. We got to the door and were told (from outside the door, the trainer said) it was blocked believe me we wanted to open that door anyway, but we played by the rules and went back UP the narrow stairwel, found another exit and saved his bacon. Talk about having to think on your feet. There was a lot of 'failure' but it was definitely one of the 'lessons learned' classes.
I like training where thee is a class with hands on for the whole group and followup drills where repetitive exercises are performed so there is team building.
thank you very much...i never really thought about the noise part..i will keep that in mind.
to incorporate your tic to find heat use heat packs and hide them throughout the house
