Hi all,

I'm a new Volunteer and I'm just wondering, how do you all prepare for that 2am call? Do you jump in the pov in your boxers or do you keep a "kit" ready for the moment? Share some ideas on being ready to roll!

pants/shirt at foot of bed, radio and pager on the night stand.. this morning at 2:15 am someone showed up in pj's then jumped in bunker's when we wer called out to an auto accident..
Lol. My husband & I are both volunteers too. We each have 2 gear bags, one structural, one wildland. And although we could (theoretically) load up one car with 4 bags, there wouldn't be room for kids or groceries. Or if we decided to drive one of the other vehicles that day, we'd have to transfer 4 bags of gear... After 10 years in fire/ems, my gear is usually in our bedroom, & the rescue truck I drive is usually kept in my driveway. I throw on gear & walk out the door. My husband's gear is usually in the fire engine at our station. He drives to the station, throws on gear, & goes to the fire. In our rural setting, ourselves & our station on the edge of the boonies, this seems to work. :D
i sleep in a shirt and boxers ... pants/shorts & socks & shoes are beside my bed, keys are by the door.
My gear stays on the rack and floor at the station. our station is only about 600yards from my house, but the other side of a highway intersection. I have gone to the station in my boxers before but usually I'm in a t-shirt and sweat pants that stay beside my bed along with my shoes.
It always depends on where my gear is... I have run out of the house at four am in my boxers knowing that my turnouts are on the front seat of the truck. I get to the station already in my turn out pants and fire up the rig... Other times, if my gear is at the station, I leave the house in the closest thing I find, by stumbling around in the dark...
My trousers, t-shirt and socks are right beside my bed.
Here in germany we usually leave our bunker gear at the station, as firefighter responds directly to the scene.

For first-responder alarms, i sometimes go straight to the scene so my ems-clothes are in my car.
I only live about 30 seconds from the station so I keep my gear over there right now.Have the radio and pager on a stand at the end of the bed.My wife and I keep our wildland gear and coveralls at the house so if a middle of the night call comes up you can just jump in them and go.Used to keep my gear in my truck and would bring the pants/boots in at night so they were not cold in the winter.Once those babies get cold it is miserable.

As a Volunteer FF i just take what i had worn that day and set it @ the foot of my bed,of course if the clothes are really nasty, i have a set on the back of my bedroom door to "jump" into. I keep the laces open on a pair of sneakers by the door, i'm out the door & in route in under 2min.
