I am a 5yr. member of a completely vol. fire dept. that is lacking in leadership. What I mean is I have been told by officers : "what do you want me to do ? suspend them? " when I have gone to them with problems of other members not following the rules. I'm not talking about petty at the station B.S. either. It just frustrates me to no end. It seems to be the mentality that if we say something to a "wrong doer" that no-one will show up anymore.

if they are that bad get new ones why take the chance of someone getting hurt recrute new, suspend them for two weeks and if when they come back they havent figured out the problem fire them because there just in it to say they are a firefighter
My suggestion is to get new officers and i would also like to know what guidelines are in place in regards to disipline. If theese members cant straighten out they need to hit the road there is no place for them in the fire service. in regards to training in my department its very simple the state requires a certain number of training hours every year, if our members do not obtain there hours of training they are removed from the department no questions asked. they are elgible to reapply for membership in six months, thats when you find out who is in the department for the right reasons. I SAY THAT IT IS GUT CHECK TIME FOR YOUR DEPARTMENT!!!
